Using the 54 Mbps IEEE 802.11g wireless standard, it delivers data rates nearly five times faster than the 802.11b standard. The AirPort Extreme Base Station serves up to 50 Mac and Windows users simultaneously. And it comes complete with all the connectivity you need — including ports for a DSL or cable modem or a local area network, a 56K V.90 modem, a USB port and range-extending antenna connector — to create the wireless world of your dreams.

AirPort Extreme and AirPort Express base stations make 802.11g wireless networking affordable and easy-to-use for consumers, small businesses, and campuses alike.

AirPort Base Stations come in three varieties: AirPort Express, AirPort Extreme, and AirPort Extreme with Power over Ethernet.

AirPort Express
Intended for home use as a stand-alone product or as an addition to an existing AirPort Extreme or AirPort Express network. Target customers are first-time wireless Mac or PC consumers, as well as customers who already have wireless at home. AirPort Express is designed to be a primary base station or be added to an existing wireless network to play music using AirTunes or share a USB printer. AirPort Express is an incredibly small product that allows customers to connect, listen, and print wirelessly.

AirPort Extreme (with modem and antenna port)
Intended for general customers who need the most robust wireless networking solution, including providing Internet access to up to 50 users and dial-up capabilities via a 56K built-in modem. The integrated LAN port allows flexible network configurations—for example, allowing an unwired PC to connect.

AirPort Extreme (with Power over Ethernet and conformance to UL 2043)
Intended for institutional customers who require Power over Ethernet and UL 2043 certification for use in air-handling spaces as part of a large wireless networking implementation, such as in schools or businesses. This model also includes the LAN port for network flexibility.
